Bromhill Road
Studio DJL was commissioned to extend this semi-detached house in Southeast London in an unconventional and unexpected manner. The clients specifically requested a design that would contrast sharply with the form, materials, and layout of the existing property, challenging the conventional approach to extensions.
In response, Studio DJL designed a striking twin gable-ended rear extension, which boldly reinterprets the traditional architectural language of the house. Clad in stack bond buff brick, the extension stands out with its contemporary aesthetic, offering a clear visual distinction from the original structure. The use of the twin gable design not only adds architectural interest but also enhances the sense of space and light within the new addition.
This extension creates a dynamic contrast with the host property, fulfilling the clients' vision while adding a modern twist to the home. The result is a unique and eye-catching addition that redefines the character of the house, merging tradition with innovation.
